Tortolì is situated on the east coast of Sardinia and it is considered the most important town of the splendid Ogliastra region. It extends along a stretch of coast adjacent to the Arbatax port, which is well connected with the principal ports of the Italian peninsula. Inhabited since prehistory as is evidenced by the "Tomb of the Giants" the numerous "domus de janas" and "nuraghi" of the area, it was part of the Ogliastra Parish and the "Giudicato di Cagliari". In the centre of this small town you’ll find the former Cathedral of St. Andrea, with a beautiful facade and an evocative interior, the seminary, the monastery, the brick oven, and the palaces which face the tiny, historical Roma Piazza. Just a little ways north is the old Episcopal Palace. From the promontory of Capo Bellavista you can enjoy a breathtaking view of red carved porphyry cliffs contrasting with the green vegetation of the coastal pine forests and the crystal-clear water of the sea. From the superb view of the highest mountains on the island, to the wide choice of inland excursions, from idyllic landscapes to the typical small villages which still preserve old customs, from the chance to go hunting or deep sea fishing, to the opportunity for a boat trip to beautiful white sandy beaches, Tortoli’ is a seaside resort with a definite future. South of the Capo Bellavista promontory is the tower of St. Gemiliano, which along with the tower in Arbatax, was an advanced defence system against Barbaric invasions. The coastal area is full of wonderful places worth visiting: the beaches of Basaura, Orri’ and Cea are within easy reach. A little further you’ll find the beautiful sights of Goloritzé, Sisine, Calaluna and the well known "bue marino" cave where the famous "Nun Seal" used to dwell. The archaeological area of St. Salvatore is rich with historical artifacts, many of which have only recently been brought to light.

The calendar of events is full and rich: in the summer time, concerts performed by internationally known groups are held on the pink cliffs know as "the red rocks". The most spectacular festival, among those celebrated throughout the year, is the "Stella Maris" with its enchanting parade of boats. The excellent cuisine of the area features a variety of fresh fish provided by the local fishermen.
